Takeo 武雄市

Takeo Shrine

Founded in 735, Takeo Shrine (武雄神社) is the oldest Shinto shrine in Saga Prefecture, Kyushu. Located at the foot of Mt. Mifuneyama, it is renowned for its tranquil bamboo grove and the legendary 3,000-year-old sacred camphor tree (Takeo no Okusu) towering 27 meters high in the forest behind the main hall.

The Great Camphor Tree of Tsukazaki

The Great Camphor Tree of Tsukazaki (Tsukasaki no Ookusu 塚崎の大楠) is a 1,300-year-old natural monument located in Saga City, Saga Prefecture. Standing 30 meters tall with a 14.7-meter trunk circumference, the tree is a breathtaking sight on the Saga Plain, offering panoramic views of the Ariake Sea and Mount Unzen-Fugen from its grounds.

Takeo Onsen Romon

The Takeo Onsen Romon (Takeo Onsen Tower Gate 武雄温泉 楼門) is a striking, vermilion-lacquered tower gate in Saga Prefecture, Japan, built entirely without nails. Completed in 1915 by renowned architect Kingo Tatsuno, its whimsical "Dragon Palace" design is widely believed to be an inspiration for the bathhouse in Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away.

Takeo Onsen New Building

The Takeo Onsen New Building (Shin-kan 武雄温泉 新館) in Saga Prefecture, Kyushu, is a nationally registered Important Cultural Property. Designed by renowned architect Tatsuno Kingo and built in 1915, this historic, beautifully preserved bathhouse features classic Taisho-era architecture. It operates as a public hot spring, offering smooth, alkaline waters.

Takeo city Library

Located in Saga Prefecture, Kyushu, the Takeo City Library (武雄市圖書館) is an architectural landmark and innovative cultural hub. Renovated in 2013, the facility seamlessly blends a public library with a Tsutaya bookstore and a Starbucks, allowing visitors to relax with coffee while reading. It also features a dedicated Takeo Children's Library and Takeo Historical Museum (武雄市歴史資料館 @Rm3,4).

The Saga Prefecture Space & Science Museum

The Saga Prefectural Space & Science Museum (nicknamed Yumeginga 佐賀県宇宙科学博物館) in Takeo City is Kyushu's largest hands-on natural science museum. Shaped like a giant spaceship, it features five interactive zones, a state-of-the-art planetarium, and an astronomical observatory. It offers visitors of all ages an engaging way to explore space, earth, and local ecosystems.

Keishu-En

Keishu-En (慧州園) is a traditional 9,000-square-meter Japanese garden in Takeo City, Saga Prefecture, designed by renowned landscape architect Kinsaku Nakane in 1979. It features dynamic medieval-style stone arrangements, cascading waterfalls, tea plantations, and vibrant azaleas, all framed by the dramatic "borrowed scenery" of the nearby Mount Mifune.
