Manim Rendering

Manim command can be used to control the rendering of output.

Type of Output

In general, the output of Manim can be video or pictures.

Picture Output

• Save the last frame of output only: -s, --save_last_frame
• Save the video as a gif picture: -i, --save_as_gif
• Save each frame as a png picture: -g, --save_pngs

Video Output

• Render the scene as a movie file: -w, --write_to_movie
• Render to a movie file with an alpha channel: -t, --transparent
• Start rendering not from the first animation: -n START_AT_ANIMATION_NUMBER, --start_at_animation_number START_AT_ANIMATION_NUMBER

Quality of Output

• Render at a low quality: -l, --low_quality
• Render at a medium quality: -m, --medium_quality
• Render at a high quality: --high_quality
• Rendering resolution: -r RESOLUTION, --resolution RESOLUTION
• Background color of rendering output: -c COLOR, --color COLOR
• Render to a movie file with an alpha channel: -t, --transparent

Example

Display text on scene

Since the duration of the scene is equal to zero, the scene can only be displayed in form of picture. Therefore the manim command should have the -s to limit manim to save the last frame only in order to prevent error. That is

python -m manim tut/text001a.py -ps -c gray
